Supposedly you can eat the fruit if you are in a pinch! They keep their fruits in long chains as you can see here....year round! This view of the plant does not show some of it's more menacing spines. It is one of the meanest cacti out here!

ISO 500, 1/100, f7.1
tripod

Stack of 38 zerene
5D2 @100mm macro

C&C appreciated

Eirini,
Cool Capture, it is amazing how a plant so mean can be so pretty, well done.
IMO, your signature text is a bit crowded as placed, would be better balanced if placed in the bottom left on this picture. :wavey:

Great job on the stack....the detail is terrific. Perfect BG for this as well. It's also nice to see your handling of the colors in this; it would have been easy to bump the saturation which I think would have taken away from the image.

Agree with Mike re: your signature.

I like the colors a lot here, those purples are really nice. Great composition, too.
A really nice capture!

Eirini - Very nice stack and I like how the ends of the plant make a nice little Arc !!. I almost thought you posted this upside down - how exactly was this shot ?

Ram, I updated my post to include the settings. I can't remember if I used a diffuser or not but I don't think so...I remember it being late in the afternoon so the cactus & the ground were shaded. Also, this is definitely NOT upside down. If you do a google image search on Chainfruit Cholla...you will see that it is aptly named! The fruits hang down in large "chains" sometimes the chains even branch into various directions and are very long. They all just dangle freely from the the cactus! It is a very interesting cactus in my opinion...usually people are quick to remove it when they buy land unfortunately.

Those are some very pretty blooms Eirini. I sort of wonder about inverting this so that it comes up from the bottom - or even from the side.

I like the high key approach and the light background, it really lets the flowers stand out.

Eirini:
A very interesting plant and don't recall seeing one before. The stack has clearly captured the texture, undulation and light and shadow on the stem. I am a little confused to see the flowers are not as sharp though; is the an issue with the zerene program not handling the pink as well as the green or is this due to compression?
