Indian Paintbrush
by Ramamohan Pai
Had a wonderful 8 days of vacation at Yellowstone and Badlands in SD. Explains my absence from the gallery here.
Our senior moderator, Bill Fach loves two flowers the most - Indian Paintbrush and Lupine (followed closely by Daylily), so I took some time out to shoot Indian Paintbrush at Yellowstone.
ND300s, AFD200mm F/4 Micronikkor, F/4.5 (wide open as it was windy), 1/160 Sec, ISO400, Late Evening Light and Tripod.
These are much smaller Paintbrushes than the ones we see here. The whole plant with the bloom is only about 6-10 inches and max one feet from the ground.
All thoughts highly appreciated.

13 commentsI'm envious of your being in Yellowstone. My daughter went to Colorado State Univ. last year and YNP just happens to be on my way from Seattle to CSU so I had the chance to spend several days there.....one of my favorite places on the planet, such a unique landscape.

If you wanted, the flower could probably be rotated slightly clockwise, though it looks fine how it is.

Welcome back and sound like you had a great vacation.
Lovely shot and the bg is just sublime.
