Broadsided
by Roger Kirchen
Two or three American White Pelicans (Pelecanus erythrorhynchos) were fishing in a small bay of a local pond. Another one was on land. Suddenly the one on land launched for takeoff and flew right in front of my hiding spot. I was seated on the ground at the edge of the water and, fortunately, it had not gained much altitude as it passed in front of my lens.
I like the broadside view with level wings that make the bird look like it's suspended in space. I also like the reflection pattern of the water on the underside of the bird.
Canon 7D, Sigma 150-500 mm at 229 mm, ISO 500, f/11, 1/1000 sec, -1 EV, PP in LR4, cropped to 72 % to level the shoreline and to place the bird further to the right in the frame.
Thanks for looking. C & Cs are always welcome. Roger.

6 commentsI totally agree with what has been already said by everyone so far. What really is unique to me and really sets this capture apart are the sun's rays reflecting off the ripples in the water and highlighting the underside of the subject; Too Cool . . .
