Taken from a good distance away, I was trying to create a "painterly" (gag) image more than anything with this scene below me. More reminiscent of earlier things I've done.

I hope it works for you. D90, ISO-500, 1/640th, f-6.3, 300mm, manual mode, HH, no filters. Larger posted, thanks for your C&C!

I was going to say it needs a contrast boost but is that mist on the water? It's quite pretty although the two subjects compete with each other a bit.

Hi Kah Kit, good to hear from you. :) Yes, it is mist on the water and of course the sun is nailing the entire area. Thus, I let that be and didn't try to darken it much. I have to strongly disagree about the subjects competing with each other, sorry!

To me, this is one of the best I've done in the past year as the elements came together unexpectedly and I accomplished what I quickly thought out to do given the two minutes time I had to do it in. A painting, with a camera--nothing new with that thought, but something I enjoy. This will be in my calendars and in my exhibits.

The one thing I did struggle with as you mention was how much to address the contrast. Just for giggles, well, here is a boost of about +30 on the contrast slider, and a slight levels adjustment. Thanks again, more feedback appreciated!!

I like the fishermen and the mood over the water - but the steep angle makes for a somewhat confusing composition, especially with the bird. perhaps you can crop out the bird/vegetation on the bottom?

I like the shot a lot. However, I would crop the right 2/5s of the image and keep the fishermen and the heron in diagonal. I have no problems with two competing objects here - it reminds me of a National Geographic photo. In other words, it represents the whole "ecosystem" - the men, the bird, the water, the mist, it has a story.

Looks better revised. The bird is still very distracting but cropping the right somehow improves it considerably IMO.
