This was taken last summer with a very cooperative Praying Mantis I found in my backyard. I took many photos, some of which I've posted on NPN before. Couln't resist posting this for the current weekly challenge. :smile:

Canon Rebel T1i. 90mm macro lens. F/20 for 1/6 sec. ISO 400.

The facial and neck patterns on this specimen are quite remarkable. The structures of the head and jaw are intriguing. Well captured and presented.

Cool shot Carolyn. Love the detail in the eyes, dark spots, antenna, the peachy color on the top of the head and even the hint of purple flowers int he BG. Great shot.

I especially like the overall blend of interesting colors, both mantid & BG.
The centered portrait comp works well, giving those antennae the attention they deserve too.
Great head-on POV, it offers an excellent view of the face, and the those over-sized big buggy eyeballs Carolyn:wink:
