Colorful Orbweaver

Gallery: Macro & Close-upPosted July 15, 2012186 views15 comments
Another picture of one of the many Orchard Orbweaver spiders in my gardens. The colorful background is OOF flowers in a flower bed.

Canon Rebel T1i. 180mm macro lens. F/4.5 for 1/125 sec. ISO 800. Tripod mounted, natural lighting.

An outstanding spider macro image, Carolyn, and, IMO, certainly the best of the three you've posted. The colors of the spider are amazing, and the detail you captured is superb. Love the BG as well. No nits. Outstanding. :toast:

Good sharp focus on the eye but the greens & yellows look way over satuated to be natural.

Wow, that's a gorgeous orb weaver! The colors of these metalic-looking species are amazing. The only thing about this that I think could be improved is the composition. With the colorful abdomen centered, the spider is headed out of the frame instead of into it. Of course, the right side is probably out of focus, so you don't want more there. Going with a different aspect ratio would allow you to remove some of the left side for better balance, and you could do that without losing too much of the web.

John N--These spiders really are these beautiful colors! I never realized that until viewing them through my macro lens. I would have done just a very slight saturation of these colors but to me they look as the spider looks.

Wayne--I did have some concerns about the comp for the reasons you stated. However, I liked the web on the left and the right was too OOF and bland so I decided to stick with this comp even though it bothered me some too.

Thanks everyone for your comments! So much beauty to behold if we only stop to notice.

Dang, I stand corrected. We don't get such colorful spiders out here on the prairies. Simple garden spiders are about as brilliant as we get. Thanks!

I haven't seen one of these for quite awhile, and it's not from the lack of looking..
You're lucky to have so many in your garden.
I especially like the color split BG. Great detail, POV, & comp Carolyn :toast:

The colors are really nice throughout, including the background. Looks like you had just enough DoF to make it work well in that light too. Nice job, Carolyn.
