I believe the ID is correct, if not, please let me know.

I wish the Dragon selected a better perch and the sky was overcast. I often find that the males and females in this species select metal posts or bare earth to perch usually. The perch here is a spent oriental poppy pod.

ND300s, AFD 200mm F/4 Micronikkor, F/5.6, 1/800 Sec, ISO400 and Tripod. Thankfully could manage what I did with F/5.6.

Let me know what you think.

I think they choose posts and ground because it holds the warmth for them.
Very nice detail and perfect plane of focus.

Wonderful, clear shot of this skimmer, Ram! Great plane of focus control to get such great clarity of the skimmer with a nicely blurred background. Because this is so close to symmetrical, my compulsive "picture straigtening" tendencies makes me want to rotate the skimmer's body to be perfectly vertical and crop in slightly from the right to make it symmetrical. Great capture and nice lighting.

Excellent capture, Ram. Yes, the perch could be better, but everything else looks great including the superb detail in the wings. :toast:

I think the light wored well here, Ram. Amazing details at 200/5.6; you had the plane of focus lined up perfectly.

Great job with the f/5.6 Ram, amazing it all came in so nicely..
Techs look very good, I like the DF's placement in the frame off center left as well :toast:
I believe DF's will most of the time choose high roosts as vantage points, it gives them a clear unobstructed view of small flying prey..
Hey, they like to eat too

This is one of my favorite dragonflies! Nice close up! The perch isn't the best mainly as it it so bright it is a bit distracting. I wonder if it could be darkened a little? It might be difficult as you can see parts of it through the wing.
