I've done very little shooting the last 6 months, busy with lots of other projects and activity, but had a few productive mornings last week at a little USFS trick tank. This Acorn Woodpecker is from one of those sessions.

I appreciate your critiques and comments. Please view the larger version if possible.

Canon 7D, 500mm + 1.4x TC, tripod, camo cloth, not set up or baited

f/7.1, 1/500, ISO 400

Crop to 77% (13.9 of 18MP)

An unusual setting for the species, at least compared to the shots I typically see of them. It loos like your skills survived the time off.

Some day I'll have to visit that tank.

it's definitely not how I typically see them represented--but bear in mind the species name--oaks are a defining characteristic of their habitat.

would love to take you out there some time, Rich, and already starting to think about heading back down your way once the temps start to moderate.

The framing by the branch and trunk works for me; the detail in the bird is very good. And your ability to get good detail in the whites and blacks is very impressive. First rate, Brian.

Love the natural framing and head-turn, beautiful species I'd not seen before Brian.
