Gambel's Quail w/ 2 chicks

I admire all the little chick shots that several people have taken, for some reason I find it an incredibly difficult task...especially when running or whatever. These little quail are like darts! I only caught them this time as they were stationary....

Does the rock in the lower right take over too much?

ISO 640, f9, 1/640
5D2, 100-400@400mm

C&C appreciated!

We usually have 3-4 families of Gambel's Quail in our back yard each year but I find it impossible to get decent shots of the chicks. In fact we have a lot of trouble just trying to count the number in each family group because they are so fast and run around so much.

The subjects are very appealing in this but I do find the OOF rock in the bottom left a bit overpowering.

I agree with Rich--really nice looking birds, with good dof, but the big rock obstructing one of the chicks is too bad.

Wonderful shot of the "little peeps" with the adult.
Techs look great, nice DOF Eirini.
Not a deal breaker as they say, but would better without the large rock FG of course.
Great shot as posted :toast:

It sounds like having any shot of this family group is a success and this one is quite nice, although I do find the OOF rock a bit distracting. However, this is a definite keeper.

I'm forced to agree with Richard. But I also agree that the kids are hard to photograph.
