Another re-post. Sorry. Thanks to all who provided feedback. Photo taken at Kenilworth Gardens in DC. Nikon D800E, 300 2.8, 25mm extention tube. Used the brighten/contrast layer mask on the first image posted.

Well done on the flower. The BG could be more blurred. To me, anyway, it's a little funky.

Bunn: I'm insanely jealous of your opportunity with lotus. I especially like the look into the center and the detail there. A tighter view would work well for me also. Nice work. >=))>

Bunn - Great series with the Lotus. The previous version had a lot more blurred background (was that done in Post Processing ? ) and was brighter. This one is darker.
Both look pretty nice to me.

The blur is post processing. I am able select the background applie any amount of blur in CS6 as I am sure all can. I purposely did not cream it out as I thought it was interesting artistically ( maybe a little funky). So many of my BGs are creamed out this was a change. Perhaps later I will try it

I looked at all three, still prefer your original post Bunn. It has an overall brighter, more cheerful look, and is well contrasted against the darker BG IMHO. Like this one too, it's right in the middle & at my second pick

Beautiful color and detail in the flower. I like the bg. I enjoy seeing a bg like this that shows a hint of what's in the background.

The larger photo is a real beauty. I love everything in the flower and in the background.
Take care.
