Was in the Rockies today in the heat doing some fishing. Noticed a Spotted Sandpiper nearby that wasn't going away and making some noise. Finally saw why when 3 chicks appeared in the rocks by the water under some trees and shade. Grabbed my camera from the car and went back to the spot to try for some shots. Got a couple of the parents, but these chicks were so tiny, they were hard to get in the viewfinder. They moved fast amongst the rocks and brush, so I only got a couple of shots that were any good. I had to just sit tight and try to let them come to me since it was the only shaded area along that part of the stream. When I say small.....I mean tiny.......photo does not give you an idea how small they were. I doubt they hatched very long ago. Anyway, neat experience for the day.

Terrific! I've never seen this species except as a migrant. I've shot Killdeer at this stage and know how hard it is to capture the fuzz. This is excellent in that regard.

They move along the ground like little rockets, don't they. And when you try moving shots, they stop. Maddening. Yours are better than mine, and a little older, I think. Considering the ways these guys move, excellent shot.

You did a great job with this - to only fire off a couple & get something this good was fortunate. Excellent work!

Very cute, David. Very nice capture of the fuzzy body and surrounding habitat. Shows how well the camouflage works with the youngsters. :toast:
