Black-eyed Susan bud

My black-eyed susan flowers are starting to bloom; a sure sign of summer. I enjoy the opened flowers but also enjoy noticing all the interesting forms of the unfurling buds.

Canon Rebel T1i. 180mm macro lens. F/3.5 for 1/125 sec. ISO 100. Tripod mounted, flash.

I would like to see more of the flower in focus, maybe F8 . Great color tho.

I like your composition. The dof is interesting and holds my attention. I think your choice of dof works for this image.

I agree with a little more DOF, slightly less contrast. It looks slightly underexposed on my monitor...MacBookPro.

I really like the moment of development you chose to shoot in this. The lines of the young petals makes for a very interesting subject. Beautiful color, too.

Great comp but dof is off for my taste with front focus.

I thought the choice of focal point may be a problem but I ended up posting this particular shot anyway because I liked the sharpness of the curvy leaves in the front of the center. I also liked the blurriness progression through the photo. With the larger aperture needed for a nice blurred background, one always needs to choose what very limited area you want to be in focus on the subject (unless you stack, which I haven't don't yet). It seems to be most pleasing for viewers though, if the main flower center is kept in focus. Thanks for the input, everyone.

My vote goes for a tad more depth, but a stunning capture Carolyn.

Caroline:
I like the capture of this stage of the flower and I think the DOF is fine although as you said, some prefer to see the center in focus.
