Ornamental Onion

I believe this is the seed head of an ornamental onion. We had several weeks of rain this spring. Went to a local rose garden and the rain had ruined the day except for this seed head that had collected at these water droplets. Taken with Canon 7D, using 100-400 IS lens, handheld in the pouring rain. Felt the b&w conversion emphasized the crystal effect.

Comments always welcomed.

I really like the conversion on this to accentuate the lines and shapes. Your exposure looks dead on to me, and the raindrops are such a great addtion. Unique and excellent.

Nice control of the BG....any detail there would have taken away from the fine detail of the onion....the raindrops are a great addition.

Patricia:
I always enjoy looking at B&W and I think your conversion is pretty good. The water droplets do sparkle here. I wish the bg of a slightly different tone to the bloom to make it stand out.

Patricia - Yes this the seed head of an Ornamental Onion. This usually has purples and greens for colors. Like your choice for DOF and water drops add some interest.

Looks like a burst of fireworks and your b&w treatment helps that a lot. Nice way to salvage a rough outing.

I agree with you about the b&w. Beautiful effect and it also ties everything together to present a beautiful image.
