Damselfly

I had expected a lot of insects this season due to the relatively mild winter but I don't find many. May be the pesticides at the local garden keeps them away - I need to look for better places to shoot insects.

Not very happy with the perch (the OOF elements beneath the main holding the Damsel) but I have to sometimes take what is offered.

The Damsel was slightly backlit and I did everything else right (I think) like coming parallel to the body, managing background etc etc. Shooting insects is not a strength particularly so I tend to celebrate small successes.

Let me know if you like this Blue Beauty.

ND300s, AFD200mm F/4 Micronikkor with 36mm ET, F/8, 1/100 Sec, ISO400 and Tripod.

Ram, I did not even notice the OOF flowers until I read your comment. My view was fixed on the horizontal pose, turquoise blue color, excellent detail, and great BG. :toast:

Come to Texas Ram, we got bugs galore
Great light on the subject..light overcast? You don't say.
Excellent colors and the detail looks very good from what I can see at this size..
I especially like your BG :toast:

I think this looks great, Ram! Good details on the bug, nice background, good lighting, and nice comp. I think the perch looks fine; but I guess if it bothers you, you could have cropped up and made a pano image to get rid of the OOF plant or cloned it out. Shooting insects is almost always a challenge and I think you did good!

Wow. I love it. The OOF portion doesn't bother me. The background really supports the subject. :toast:

Terrific detail in the damselfly and excellent plane of focus control. I'm not bothered by the oof elements because of the clean background and perfect sharpness along the entire length of the damsel. Yeah, in a perfect world, you wouldn't have the oof elements of the perch, but given how mobile these critters are what you've got here is great.
