Sun and Clouds too

One more image from last Friday Morning. This one is my personal favorite. The color at the bottom is probably due to the smoke haze from all the fires south, west, and north of us. I considered cropping the buttes on the bottom off, but for me they give a sense of place. I will be interested in your opinions. The smoke haze on the horizons are blocking the very early sunrise light. There is some interesting effects in the atmosphere, but that nice soft light that skips across the prairie and lights up the hills is not there now. It looks like it might be a while before it clears up. But the people dealing with the fires have a lot more to worry about then some pictures. They are in our prayers.

The lovely light, haze, clouds and sun rays "seal the deal" on this picture. The minimal landscape provides an unobtrusive anchor, and, as you say, provide a sense of place.

The smoke haze does add something extra to this skyscape. I'm glad you included the buttes, they provide a sense of scale which makes that pillar of light even more impressive. Very nice.

Nice work Richard. I like that you included the buttes. The beams look great going up through the clouds.

Richard,

A title with either the word "glory" or "glorious" would work quite nicely. This is one beautiful sky or cloudscape! I agree with in keeping the land in the image - I think you have just the right amount and it serves the image very well. No nits what so ever. Beautifully captured and processed.

Nice skyscape here, Richard. The vertical composition is perfect here as the beams from the sun point upward. The composition also emphasizes the scale of the sky compared to the landscape.

Love the color, vertical light beams, and buttes as an anchor for the scene. I'd be tempted to add a slight amount of contrast and clarity to the clouds, but it's a beautiful capture as is.
