I don't shoot much Avian, but I am constantly alert to opportunity. I spotted this sad little find on an edging stone of a friends backyard pond yesterday. I shot it with my new Fujifilm X-Pro1 with the 35mm f/1.4, which is quickly becoming my everyday go-to camera.

Avian is normally filled with such beautiful imagery, I hope this doesn't spoil the party, but this struck me as a strong image and I wanted to share with people I thouht could appreciate it.

Comments encouraged and welcome, of course.

Stark. A perfect choice for high contrast b/w.

From the shield and the feet I'm guessing this was a coot.

A powerful image. The black and white give it a lot more impact. I found myself wishing for a sense of scale...

It's always nice when someone who works mainly in a different genre comes in to show us a different perspective on our feathered friends. I like this one a lot, Jim. I like your choice of the grainy black and white effect. It almost looks prehistoric. :toast: :toast:

Strong image indeed; B&W and vignetting works beautifully, adding to the overall sad emotions we feel for the subject.
