another shot from my recent patagonia trip. this time we went on a less travelled route again and ended up in an area that reminded me of nepal. the peak in this one is called cerro san lorenzo and is relatively well known amongst climbers for it's unclimbed east face (pictured here).

the image was taken way before sunrise. i liked the hues of the blue hour and the movement in the clouds. let me know what you think.

read more about the image on my blog.

Laguna de los Témpanos, Santa Cruz, Argentina

Canon 5DMKII, EF 17-40 @ 17mm
ISO 100, f/11, 241 seconds
single exposure processed in LR and PS

best,
joerg

Joerg, How do you determine how long that you will need to leave the shutter open to capture a photo like this?
Like 241 seconds how do you come up with that and do you use a cable release or some other method to hold the shutter open? Great photo by the way.

I like the isolated chunk of ice against the rock coastline. I think the image becomes a little more balanced with a slight crop off the top.

Beautifully exposed with the wisps of cloud coming off the peak a nice touch. Composition I find OK but somehow the elements don't hang together as well as some of your other work.

Creative long exposure Joerg. I like it! The clouds over the peaks really add to the image...almost like blowing snow.

Beautifully composed and I like the elements, especially the foreground ice. Snow on the mountain feels a bit bright, but also quite natural. Overall the balance of light here is very good.

I find this one very appealing, Joerg. I like how the foreground ice as well as the snowy peak stand out.

An outstanding composition to me, Joerg. The foreground ice is a central area of interest for me, wonderfully complemented by the mountains in the distance.
