Brand New Day

by Howard Cheek

Gallery: FloraPosted June 19, 201266 views6 comments
A brand new day at first light. A fresh Shasta Daisy as it unfurls to greet it.
I tried to use the light to my advantage, as it falls across the flower here. My goal is always to try & simply show the things of nature, in a different or unique way. Hopefully you can see what I see as well.
And that nature speaks for herself.
She really doesn't need my two cents either

F/11, 1/100th, ISO 400, 1D M3, Sigma 150mm f/2.8 and breezy conditions with a "plamp"..

Howard - Agree with the thought that sometimes being simple is everything. Like the light and the upturned petals - shot with a slight incline !. Would not mind some more focus for the details at the center

I'll second everything Ram has said, particuarly like the directional lighting and whimsical upturned petals. I might also suggest brightening the yellow just a little...

Howard:
Simplicity is the key in many images. I like the lower third of the image and would like to see more even lighting in the center.

Love this intimate view of the magareete center. Like the color and how the petals are just opening up. Nice subdue lighting. Well done Howard.

Excellent subject, comp, POF, and DOF, Howard. I like the side lighting, and I know you are trying to present this as early sunrise light, but I might try to bring it up a pinch more just to give it a little more pop.

Howard, I like the "flow" here from the sharp petals in the lower right to the flower's center and finally the flying petals in the back. I love the details at the edge of the center that show so nicely in the larger version and the soft lighting. Speaks very simply of the joys of summer.
