Evening drops

I was grilling dinner this evening and noticed the raindrops on a one of the flowers I have on my patio. I took the camera and tripod out and took some shots with the nice overcast evening sky.

Hope you didn't burn whatever you were grilling while concentrating on this.... :wavey:

I like how the OOF areas recede away into the frame and the detail in the in-focus areas looks great. What about a crop from the top to remove the black??

I like the amount of detail in those water drops Luke. The colors are very interesting too. Overall, the comp is not working for me - but I cannot put my finger on why. Maybe cropping to an abstract would help.

Really like this combination of colors and the way they transition towards the petals end.
The rain soaked look is most appealing as well.
Nice light and depth, great work Luke! :toast:

Luke:
Lovely light and I like how you have captured the sheen on the petals and the drops. Details on the petals are just fabulous. Whilst I like the receding blur of the leave toward the top, there is not much interest in the black area. On the one hand, my eyes are drawn to the details in the petals beneath the sheen and following downward I am disappointed to find the tips have been cut off. Perhaps angling down slightly to include the tips would take care of the above.

Luke - There are really some good things going on in this frame. Colors are nice, love the magnified petal details through the water drops acting like a magnifying lens and of course the triangular shapes repeating.

As already mentioned, letting go of the top dark portions for the petal tips might have made this composition stronger but I would not know the practical difficulties in making such a composition possible.

Very strong colors here and the water drops really add to the image. I agree that it would have been nice if the tips were not cut off. Small nit to an otherwise fine image.

Very interesting image Luke. I would not crop any more off the top but would have liked to see more of the petal tips. Sometimes technically it just doesn't work.

Lush and sensuous, Luke, with great colouring and very impressive droplets. Wonder if this might even crop to a pure abstract ? It's nice as is though.
