Simple Cascade...

Getting out into the woods with friends is one of my favorite things to do. Exploring and finding new places, just having a great time. It's just a great way to experience nature. However, when I am out there alone is when I feel the most at peace. The simple stillness of everything around you with just the sounds of the creek. It can't be beat! This is when it seems like I really grow as a photographer. I feel like I look at things a bit different, slowed down, more methodical about the processes of what is possible. I take the time to really make sure I have the shots I need for what I envision for the shot. Most of the time I walk out of the forest with a zenful feeling. Like I've really done something cool. Whether I've really shot something new or not, a portfolio shot or not, a popular shot or not...I know I have a better sense of well being regardless. I love that. Thanks for looking!

Jeremy,
I know exactly what you are saying about just "being there"
I HOPE my images are worthwhile, but that's a very distant second to just being out there.
I love your image too! :toast:
Nice work all around.

I think anywhere you go without people around you makes it feel at peace. During my solo trip, I've never felt so peaceful while photographing. Anyways, lovely greens and I like the comp here. These forest images are really making me eager to leave for my trip to the NW.

Great light. Love the way you've used the perspective up to the sky to create a sense of a chapel. Can't agree with you more about wandering around in the gorge.

Very well said Jeremy, and I couldn't agree with you more! And nice shot too, BTW...

I agree with your comments whole heartedly, enjoying being there is far more important than capturing a great image. Though getting that image is like icing on the cake really , and this shot is some nice icing !!

I really like the bright green of the trees against the light blue of the sky here. In this case, I'd like to see a faster shutter speed for more texture in the water. I definitely agree with you that being there is way more important than getting the shot (unless you're a pro).

Jeremy,

Excellent, I really like the full view and perspective here. Great job holding the sky too; makes such a big difference seeing a shade of blue than a wash out. Single image, tone mapped? just curious.

The only minor nit/wish from me has to do with the water. I love the flow and texture as the water flows outward, but I'm wishing there was a bit more texture/detail in the center of the pool. Certainly not washed out, just lacking some texture I guess. Not a huge deal.

And have to agree with you on the experience thing. Great to be out and enjoy with good friends, but nothing quite like absorbing it all when you're by yourself. Thanks for sharing that.

Lon

Thanks guys! I appreciate the feedback. I forgot to put the info for the two shots used...fixed that. As to the water Lon...I agree. There are some things I would like to rework on the image and will when I get a chance, and that is one of them. Thank you.

Jeremy,

Quite exciting image. My first thought was that the FG water and rocks lacked contrast. Then I started to question your technical settings - are you sure the sky needed more exposure than the trees and ground?

I have always felt closest to nature deep in the forest, above all other locations! I went back and forth on this comp, and although there is a larger amount of whitewater that catches my eye, and the distortion is a bit trippy... I am really loving the feeling this image emits. It really fits with your dialogue well!

What a great balance of light here, Jeremy, on top of a really nice comp. You were definitely in the moment when you took this one.
