Male Woodie Chick
by Rick Turner
This is a close up of a male Wood Duck in molt to show gender. I was under a camo net as this baby came withing 3 meters of my position. You can see the color emerge on top of head and darkening below eyes of feathers as the bright colors begin to come out and also there is color change on top of bird. It seems that these chicks are about a month old as I have followed them up and down Turtle Creek of late.
There is slight blur in beak area as this chick talked to me as he got closer and closer. The fallen berry in water held his interest most of the while as he tried to figure out how to eat it.

I especially like the low angle and added colors of that fallen berry.
The berry provides a great focal point for this comp as well Rick.
