Do you like butter?

by Carolyn Derstine

When I was growing up we would pick one of these Buttercup flowers and hold it under someone's chin. If the underside of their chin looked yellow we would say they liked butter. Anyone else do this?

This picture was taken in a sunlit mountain meadow in NE Penna. over Memorial Day weekend.

Canon Rebel T1i. 180mm macro lens. F/9 for 1/80 sec. ISO 400. Tripod mounted, natural lighting.

Very nice photo Carolyn! Great sharpness, and I like the BG too. These are pretty tiny flowers right? Really a great photo.

You did a good job with the harsh lighting conditions...did you use a diffuser? Nice control of the BG while maintaining a nice sharp flower.

The buttercup under the chin thing I use to do also....I think that dates us though.

Carolyn, what a sweet flower.... and I love the way you composed to the side......... lovely yellows, does want you to reach out and taste it........ I do not remember doing that as a child, and I don't remember this flower being plentiful where I grew up. Just lovely :toast:

Nathan, these flowers are about 3/4" wide, not overly small. They are quite plentiful in our area this time of year.

Mark, the diffuser was me! I cast my shadow over the flower to cut out the harsh sunlight and pushed some unwanted stems out of the way to ensure a more clean background.

Carolyn:
No knowing the custom thing, I though the 'butter' refers to the buttery bg LOL. Lovely capture of this little beauty and the sweet bg. Well well done.

Carolyn - Beautiful frame for this small Buttercup  - I like the unusual composition pushing the flower to the side and using the space to show the grass strands/stems subtly. Very Nice

Beautiful, Carolyn. No nits; looks great. Yes, I remember the butter reference, but I would never have remembered it on my own. Thanks for the childhood memory.

Hi Carolyn :wavey: Wonderfully captured :jump: The detail and color are perfectly done, ...buttercups thrive in acidic soil, and are everywere in Canada, love them or hate them, they look so beautiful, in great masses.

Fascinating yellow flower and you have captured and presented it in such stylistic fashion. Great color contrast and composition. Really love this one Carolyn. :toast:

like it a lot. So crisp and a beautiful soft BG. The few dark lines going through make this interesting.
