This is one of an ongoing series of moon photos. I love the way the moon is encircled by both color and texture.

Too centered for me and a bit soft.

This makes a beautiful abstract with the light, color and texture all working together. I rather like the misty, moody feel. Nicely done

Until i read Ricks comment i didnt think centering was a problem here--but i did think it could be a tighter comp. Using his suggestion, i think the strongest comp would be using thirds with the moon in the center, left side point, cropping a bit off the left and top/bottom. The subject is fabulous and creative!

A very artistic offering. I think the square format works. I do think Rick's point is valid. I like Stan's suggestions, too, with a small change. None off of the top, to leave that great dark cloud as a counterpoint to the moon.
Well, that should clear it all up for you with so many different suggestions.

Stan, I cropped it slightly, with the moon just left of center.....Is this what you had in mind?
If it isn't,, please, copy and crop this one as you would like it to be seen? I always like your input! BTW, why is the sky pink?
And Rick, sorry, but the clouds wouldn't sit still for 2 sec

I was thinking a bit more extreme--but it's just my preference, you've gotta go with what looks best to you. My reasoning is that this crop combines the best of both worlds--centering, since the subject is circular which lends itself well to centering, and thirds, which are almost always a strong rule.
I guess the clouds are pink because the blue end of the spectrum is scattered away by the cloud particles as you move away from the moon--so you're left with the red side (and white clouds + red = pink)

The eye in the sky. The great cosmic stare. I certainly would NOT re crop it. I think it works perfect as is. I do think it looks just a little soft though. Great powerful impact!

thanks Stan for replying with your idea. I see where you are going, but I do still like the black as a BG for the ring of clouds. IMO Your crop would be very cool,if the clouds were in focus. But, the clouds were moving ,. and I think a closer crop actually makes the softness of the clouds even more pronounced. But, really, please feel free to copy and paste your idea of a good crop anytime. I value all of the comments here, but for the sky...I really trust you....I just csn't agree this time..
I have to go with Mark this time. In fact,I like the original post. and not even my own cropped version:

Neat moon shot, very moody. I don't mind the centering, but could also see moving it off center depending on how quickly the brightness falls off. Your idea would be a good candidate for a two shot composite, with the second shot keeping detail in the moon.
