River of Light

Another image from Cape Royal on the Grand Canyon's North Rim, taken a couple hours later than the last one I posted.

Since finishing this image, I've never been totally happy with the color I ended up with. I do like the composition and light, however - so I'll probably reprocess this one soon, once I feel up to the task of blending again.

This is a blend of 3 exposures - one for the sky, one for the sun spilling over the landscape, and one for the rest of the landscape with my finger blocking the sun, as the 17-55 was flaring quite badly.

Tony Kuyper, this should give you a good idea of the scene I pulled my last image from - it wasn't as telephoto as you might think.

Very well put together and processed. Not having been there, I don't know the color you are searching for, but I would be very happy with this! It is natural and believable. Be careful not to talk yourself into over processing. All too easily done! :toast:

As much as I liked your last posting from here, this is simply magnificent. You were blessed with good conditions during your visit. The composition with the side canyon in that particular position is exquisite! Your 'development' is nearly flawless. as well.
I understand your concern about color, although I don't think that it's too far off at all. Hopefully, it's something you can tweak with the current master file.
Anyway, this is one of the best GC images I've seen in some time.

I think this is a keeper. The wash of light over the canyon is just about perfect and the details are wonderful. Very nicely done

Pretty much echoing what John said, this is gorgeous! My only suggestion would be to see what a crop to just above the flat top of the cloud just left of center would look like - there's a bit too much of that bright, featureles sky at the top. Really nice work!

Gorgeous! Enchanting light ...masterly handled. Could not comment on colors. The rt to left composition balance is probably impossible to consider...and as is, this is magnificant. (oddly...when I opened this my first impression was that it had a slight left leaning CCW tilt... could it be my stigmatism with the monitor and seating posture? ...but, then I started thinking about the cliffs on rt side and horizon...and left to rt comp balance as the reason for my gut reaction...just sayin...not saying it is anything beyond a subjective gut response)

I like this quite well, Alex. It feels interpretive colorwise, but that's OK with me. The sky looks real and the canyon looks artistic. The image works, and that's what matters. I do see what you're talking about here. Looks like plenty of textures and shapes even at less-than-telephoto focal lengths.

Alex I love this image of what detail it prevails. It give you a moment to stop and look into how magnificent this composition is and the right timing to capture it.

Well done.
