Grand Junction

Afternoon sunlight filters through the storm clouds to illuminate western Colorado's Book Cliffs.
I think the blues/cyans in the clouds might be a bit too dark and too saturated, and the brightest highlights in the cliffs need to be pulled back a bit. The foreground vignette might also be a bit much.

8 commentsGreat light on the buttes. I love these conditions when the sky dark and the landscape lights up. This is quite a great image too with the inclusion and interesting mix of trailers, the shed and building. Makes for a good story.
It's those buildings and trailers that make this a better fit for the Man & Nature gallery. I'm gonna go ahead and move this after posting my comment. Hope that makes sense. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact myself or another moderator.
Still doesn't change this excellent image. Thanks for sharing.

edit: I forgot to comment on your comment about color/sat and the vignette. Honestly, none of those concerns you have entered my mind when viewing this for the first or subsequent times. The clouds look pretty natural to me and the slight vignetting actually looked like natural color and tone variations in the ground. I say good job on the processing.
Gary.
Rudy, I hope you take advantage and shoot the area whenever you visit your family there. Have you been there in the fall? I haven't had much time there (this was taken while passing through on I-70), but it seems there's great photographic possibilities - with the aspens exploding in yellows, the book cliffs and Mt Garfield, and the snow-capped Rockies in the distance to the east.
