f/5.6
ISO 400
Handheld
Rookery at St. Augustine Alligator Farm
Raw, LR3, CS5, full frame

I like the light, the white against the green, the colors of the bird and the colors of the green, and the pose of the bird.

I wish there was a catchlight, and I wish the OOF vegetation on the right wasn't there. Changing position wouldn't have helped because there was more vegetation that would have been OOF on the left, so I decided to try it.

Comments, opinions especially about the OOF vegetation, and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

I like this shot. The background is good and the feet are very prominent, which for a snowy, is a must. Good job.

Beautiful bird, Barbara. Your image really showcases it. Great detail on the plumage, nice pose, and nice composition. Yeah, I would have liked that twig on the right to not be there and the BG a little lighter behind the dark bill. But that's only two minor nits as opposed to a whole bunch of good things about this. Gorgeous bird.

That is a good snowy pose Barbara. I also like the way the BG brings out the bird. Too bad about the little leaf in front, but sometimes it cannot be helped.

What a nice pose of the bird! I'd sure rather have the shot like this than forego it because of a little oof foliage. I agree with the others on the wish list and would add that maybe you could burn in the oof branches a little, so as to make the oof less obvious. Great shot, Barbara.

Barbara-this is a sensational image. The pose, the contrast between the white bird and the green background, and a clear view of the 'golden slippers' really makes the image. The natural habitat is just that, natural- so I'm not at all obsessed with the OOF vegetation to the right of the subject, nor the lack of catchlight, as the eye is very detailed here. Great job!

I'm so captivated by the pose, I hardly notice the OOF vegetation.

Very nice. Sure, we photographers pick our images apart and wish the limbs on the right weren't there but they are and it's still a quality image.

Barbara, I find this to be a very strong image!! Pose is great, composition is right on, detail in the highlights and shadow areas, OOF vegetation is not a problem for me. The branch that is protrubing onto the body of the bird from the right side is a bit distracting, but not much you could have done about it. An all around very good photo, thanks for sharing.

Well done considering the limitations. I love the feathers up.

Great pose. I rather like the everyday perch with the obstructions. Environmental shots are right up there with glamour shots imho. To me it adds a sense of depth to the image. I like the layers. Good composition too.

Barbara, great capture. I also like the white against the green and the birds mating colors. The vegetation does not bother me. This is a great nature shot for sure! :wavey:

I like the upward look of the bird and the oof vegetation doesn't bother me. I would prefer more room at the top because that is the direction the bird is looking and perhaps a little less on the bottom. :toast:

Very nice image, Barbara. The pose is great and the techs are spot-on. About my only nit would be a bit more room at the top for the bird to look in to. A minor issue in a very strong image.
