Canon EOS 7D

Handheld
Rookery at St. Augustine Alligator Farm

With them either sleeping or constantly moving it's harder than it seems it would be to get a picture with faces of all three birds showing.

Comments, opinions and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

Barbara this is an excellent image and one that I don't have either. I like the square crop. Good DOF with the last bird's eye almost as sharp and the front one. Feather colors are nice and I love the 'wiry hair do'

Talk about a bad hair day! Very nice shot Barbara, good job of getting all three eyes with good detail. Well done.

Very cool image, Barbara. What f-stop were you at? It looks like you have excellent dof, but just a trifle more to pick up that last topknot would have been super. I like the poses and the "bundle-of-birds" look to this.

Thank you very much for the comments.

Dennis, I inadvertently omitted the f-stop info, it looks like, but it was only f/5.6 because of the light, but I should have tried several settings, I think, to see if I could have gotten it sharp enough at a lower shutter speed with a higher f-stop.

Love those hair doo's. A very expressive family portrait you captured here Barbara. You did very well with such a large apperture setting and hand holding. Sweet Photo

Agree with Dennis' comments on the dof. Still, this amazes me that you got all 3 as sharp as you did. Their Phyllis Diller hair is awesome! Sharon

I think you did a great job of getting them all in the frame. Great detail in the feathers and feet, and of course the eyes. Did you use any kind of reflector or just in the right place at the right time? Good one
