Rock City

This was taken recently at Rock City NNL, in north central Kansas. I was setting up for this shot, and had just pressed the button to trigger the 2 second shutter delay, when this cottontail ran out into the open grass. It was at full sprint :). The rabbit is a little blurrier than perhaps I would like. What are your thoughts, both on the inclusion of the rabbit and its appearance? 7D, ISO 200, f/11, 1/400, 13mm, essentially full frame.

The mowed grass from this NNL has been allowed in this gallery in past years, but I understand if it needs moved to M&N.

This is one wily shot Rob. I kind of like it. How about maybe cropping a little off the right hand side of the image? Nice capture!

Rob,

Sometimes it's best just to say anything.... (please disregard my remark...) But I hadn't really considered or noticed that the grass may be "mowed" until you mentioned it. But in all honesty I hadn't considered it, so no worries. And btw, it's not really that something has been allowed, it's more likely it wasn't notices or wasn't a big deal, kinda like your image here. Technically, it's a hand of man element like a crop or an almond grove. Sorry for the expanded answer.... just one of those days I guess.

The little bunny rabbit is a great addition, but it's pretty small in the frame to make a big impact. I might consider a crop of nearly 1/2 the grass for a more pano look (might emphasize the streaking bunny,) but also I think the grass here is mostly empty space and not adding much to your overall comp. I like the rock on the right and it's lead-in element it provides. I am wishing for a little more of that nice, puffy cloudy sky, but that's minor. In the end, I think the bunny makes the image a bit more successful, because without it this would be pretty static with no single element a main subject. Hope that all made sense.

I think Rob has mad some good observations. There is not center of interest that catches my eye and the light seems a little flat. I agree with the pano cropping from the bottom.

Rob, IMHO the cottontail neither adds or distracts from the overall image, just an item of interest. I like your rock composition and the mowed grass is not a problem IMHO also. I do have ask is this near Minneapolis, KS? I visited there many years ago and was impressed with what my home state had to offer. Thanks for sharing.

Rob, I agree with Lon that cropping half the grass helps emphasize the bunny as a focal point. That adds balance by pulling the eyes away from the interesting texture in the rocks and into the grass.
