Serendipity

Sony A700
Minolta 100mm macro
ISO 400, 1/320 @ f5.6

Lots of serendipity here, thus the title. This cleome was not planted here but somehow migrated over 20 yards from a completely unconnected flower bed. The BG is a bed of pansies and the light is barely post dawn and filtered through a fairly dense almond verbena tree. I was really just cruising the garden and as is my usual set up I had the 200mm on board. But to get this POV with the 200 I would have had to grow another foot or two taller so I scrambled back into the house and got the 100mm which was the right tool for the job. Once I got set up I had about 30 seconds with this light. Luck certainly seems to happen to the well prepared but I certainly subscribe to the old adage that its better to be lucky than good. All comments welcome. >=))>

Quite an explosion of color, Bill. The light on the cleome is just right! I really like the background OOF splotches throughout. They act as a guide, almost leading lines, to the sharply detailed subject.

Wonderful light and color Bill, the light on the celome is delicate and the sharp detail is great. I like the dof too, with all the color from the pansies.

Excellent background for this Cleome, Bill. Cleome really stands out in that good light. We have to wait a couple months to see Cleomes blooming here. :wavey:

Bill, very attractive image. I like the sharp and spikey cleome, and the remarkably colorful pansy BG.

Superb lighting, Bill, and a gloriously coloured bg. The dappled light and shade on the cleome really help it stand out from the rich colours behind. Beautiful image !!

Now that is a COOL flower, Bill! And the bg is somehow perfect for it; the amount of blur and more subdued light back there are just great. So I'd maybe darken and add more blur to the brightest yellow pansy on the lower left edge of the subject flower. It's a terrific shot. Congrats.
