Out in the kayak again this morning and thought I would try shooting manual. Worked out fairly well, except I used my light gray pants to set my exposure, and an actual gray card is darker. Didn't figure that out until I got home  I was pleased that I could concentrate on flight shots with either white or dark birds and they were exposed 'almost' correctly. A little PP fixed that.

7D - 70-200mm F/2.8 plus 1.4 TC
Hand held from kayak
F/8.0 - 1/2500 - ISO400
PP CS5, Plugins

Would appreciate comments. Thanks for looking

Beautiful shot Dottie. The contrast of the bird with the BG really makes it stand out. All seems to be nice and sharp too. An interesting bird, not sure I've ever seen one of these.

I like this shot. It's very clear, and with really nice light. You're really brave to take your camera in a kayak!

Sweet image, Dottie. Nice and sharp tip-to-tip and the eye really pops. Very well done.
