From my recent trip to Costa Rica, we were treated to these amazing patterns at low tide in the late afternoon sunlight. I had researched this beach well ahead of time and it really paid off as it was virtually empty were we could find lots of areas without footprints. Let me know what you think.

I like the patterns very much. I like the foliage and the sky as well, but there is something about the two together that somehow clashes. That's just me, though.

This is a fine image. I really enjoy the patterns in the sand and the colors throughout the image. I do wish for a bit more sky above. It also looks like there are some sharpening artifacts just above the trees.

the ripples are mesmerizing, colors are great. I'm not really comfortable with the foliage and sky, though I like the reflection alot. A bit more of the beautiful warm/gold beach would have been the perfect bg, IMO.

Todd, I really like the way this looks, and It very much has that tropical feel. I like the cloud on the right in that beautiful blue sky and the foreground rippled sand and water looks fantastic to me. Very nice! :toast:

I'm really enjoying the big expanse of rippled sand and how it's set off by the golden beach. The reflections are a nice addition also. My minor nit is that the foliage feels to dark (or maybe too contrasty) so its starkness clashes with the warm tones and gentle lines in the ripples.

I tend to agree with what Phil said. I think the 'clash' is due to the top part of the shot looking rather cramped with less than a third of the overall frame. Perhaps it just needs more space at the top. I do like the patterns and light in the sand.

Thanks everyone, I shot this composition understanding but breaking the rules of composition. Viewing this large on a 27inch monitor really makes this image come alive and my intention is for a large print. Viewed large the sky doesnt feel crowed but at 800 pixel and/or the thumbnail it does feel cramped.
