This is a view of Mitre Peak in Milford Sound, New Zealand. It's not sort of the typical view from the beginning of the sound. Instead, it's an 8 shot pano taken from a tour boat going along the far side of the sound. The clouds had cleared off after being very low and dreary in the morning (which was cool in its own way), treating us to this view on the way back to the dock.

Thanks for looking!

Looks like an amazing place David. I really like the cloud formations and the layer of clouds wrapping around the mountain. How hard was it to stitch the images taken from a moving boat?

Really enjoyed the large version of this, David. What a cool looking place this is and the panoramic format works great to show it off. I like the clouds here also. New Zealand is a place I would really like to visit. :toast:

David, this is a great shot with a dynamic view of the Mitre Peak. The wispy clouds add a nice backdrop to the mountain range here too. Taken from a tour boat adds to the surprise without any blur from movement of any sort.

Great clouds and mood. Those radiating clouds look like a volcano erupting from the peaks. Very cool.

Scott - It wasn't difficult at all. Three things were in my favor :

1) I was far enough from the peak that there weren't really any FG elements,
2) I took an even wider view than you see here and overlapped the shots quite a lot, and
3) I took the shots quickly one after the other (which I do a lot) so the boat didn't move very far as I took the shots. I think I took all 8 in less than 10 seconds. I have the camera set not to re-focus when I press the shutter, so once I'm in manual mode and have the focus locked, the camera doesn't do anything but trip the shutter for each shot. That makes it easy to take images quickly.

Wow. Great photo considering how you were shooting. This really captures the grandeur, and the pattern of the clouds works perfectly with the peak.

The image looks nice, but the elements feel unconnected with one another. Water, mountains, and sky almost seem like elements that could have been brought in from different pictures. That's more an observation than a critique. So don't take this wrong. The light looks nice and I'm not doubting that this is a single exposure.

Thanks Tony... Understood... The way the mountains just shoot up out of the water presents a unique situation... Thanks for the feedback
