A very unique and attractive flower. Dont recall ever seeing these before.
The details in the large version are top notch!

Very pretty flower Eirini. I am really struggling with the need for 38 images stacked up. Is this just for focus? I would think many fewer would do the trick. I don't even think I could get 38 different focuses on my macro lens. Other than that, I love the flower but would have liked a little more color contrast in the BG.

Walt, have you tried photographing curving surfaces & stacking them so that you don't lose any areas of focus? Perhaps it is overdone but I would rather be safe than sorry. I lost too many photos by under-doing it. Also, when you are really close you lose DOF anyhow...in this case I think I was using f6.3 as I wanted to blur the background (it was not very far away). Thanks for your comment!

You must have shot this with a rail. The thought of 38 stacked makes my head ache, but it was worth it. Just excellent detail for a smoothly textured plant. The softly variegated BG is perfect and very complementary.

Your techs are a little brief. can you give us more detail (exposure, SS, ISO, etc.)?

Eirini, kudos to you for you patience, dedication, and attention to detail (x 38!). It does pay off. The subject is sharp throughout, and the blurred BG is perfect for the subject. Excellent work.

Technically impeccable, and also beautifully lit and composed. I think the background, especially as nicely blurred as this, works well with this subject.

I like the BG, and the blooms are very interesting. I wondered about the 38 image stack, but understand your reasoning. Very interesting.

WOW, to someone that has yet to try stacking, I think this is just superb. Fantastic depth and detail. Super work in my opinion.

Beautiful, mellow image, Eirini ! The delicate tones are exquisite and the simplicity of the composition is just right.

Eirini, I am sorry if I offended you. I did not mean to do that. I just am having trouble figuring out if 38 exposures are really necessary. Your image certainly is sharp and your technique is a success. I know that with my macro at f6.3 one image is clearly not enough, and 38 seem to be enough. I was trying to figure out how many would be necessary. I do not have a focus blending software like Helicon focus so I have not had the opportunity to experiment with it. How did you arrive at 38?

Walt...I was not offended at all! I did not choose the number 38, that is just what I ended up with before nothing else was in focus. I focussed on the point closest to me first, then moved the ring in the tiniest increments I could do! Sometimes I have been able to get away with only 5...it just depends how close I am to the plant & how "3 dimensional" it is. If most of the plant lies within a very limited plane, I don't need as much! Both Helicon & Zerene offer a free month trial. Those are the ones I started with because I have a Mac. If you have windows I think there is at least one program that is free...I can't remember the name off hand. As long as the wind was not blowing, it is really very easy to stack with those programs!
