Clapper Rail

by Jim DeWitt

Gallery: AvianPosted March 17, 2012115 views7 comments
Olympus E-5, 300mm, tripod
f5.6, 1/250, ISO640

The shot is too tight at the back, but a footbridge pier cluttered the back. I wanted the rail to come another six inches out, but instead it turned around and scuttled back under the bridge.

Tijuana Slough NWR, San Diego. Full frame. Usual sharpening drill.

C & C, please. Thanks for looking.

never an easy bird to get a look at, that's for sure. if you've got that tail tip from another shot in the series maybe you could add it in?

Techs look great Jim, too bad the rail was not cooperating with you here.
Like the natural setting and muddied feet, attractive bird and colors!

I agree with your self critique Jim, but a very cool capture nonetheless. I'd be very happy with getting an image of these pretty shy and skittish birds. :toast:

Congrats on getting this rail out in the open, Jim. Shame about the tail, but this image shows the great colors in this rail really well.

In the larger version this bird looks as if it could just jump right off of the screen. Wonderful detail and colors.
