Numenius americanus

I just returned from 8 days in Florida. After a very poor winter for photography here in Illinois, it was great to get out and capture some nice images. This curlew was a nice treat for me, a lifer.

1D Mk IV, 500mm f4L IS, 1.4 TC
ISO 200, 1/800, f9
Full Frame

Please view large post for detail.

All comments and critique very appreciated.
Thank You.

Very nice, Matt, and congratulations on the lifer. My only suggestion would be to give it a bit more room at the bottom for the virtual feet. But the photo, especially the larger one, is very good as posted.

Lovely image Matt. Love the beaks on these guys. I was going to comment that it'd be nice to have a catchlight in the eye but when I clicked through to your larger version I saw it, albeit small

Very nice. Here in AZ we see them in the ag fields and rarely in water.

Very nice overall composition with good placement in the frame, good complimentary background and interesting that you can just barely see the shadow behind the bird, well seen and well done.
