Glowing

I took this photo a few years ago at the poppy reserve in CA. It was in March, and the poppies were not yet in full bloom. So, I went over to the coast for a couple of weeks. On the way back home, I once again stopped at the poppy reserve. The flowers had come into full bloom, but high winds had blown them to pieces. I was glad I took a few photos when first there.

I love the morning sun glowing through the poppies. I was very low on a hillside to get a nice background with no sky. I tried several apertures with different background results. I liked this best with the yellow flowers blurred but slightly visible.

A nice arrangement of poppies. The OOF yellow flowers, at least to me, compete somewhat with the orange poppies.

I don't mind the oof flowers in the background, but I do wonder if this could be lightened a little bit...there seems to be a little too much black in my opinion. Otherwise I like it a lot!

The orange and yellow colors are complementary and striking due to the strong the backlighting. Personally, and I like the OOF yellow flowers in the BG.

Love the warmth of this, Margaret - the soft lighting and very well controlled reds. Hope to see more from you !!

Now THAT is a powerful orange! I like your handling of the bg and the intense color of the flowers. I wouldn't have thought of this in the field, probably, either, but with the strong backlight, a very tiny pop of fill-flash on the front side, or use of a diffusing panel might help the depth of shadow without eliminating the dramatic effect of the back-lighting completely.

I have yet to get to the Poppy Preserve, and really hope to go soon. Lucky you!

Sweet splash of color Margaret. Well taken and displayed in my opinion.
