Calla Surfing

Minolta 200mm macro

Was out shooting some of our early callas the other day and got a bonus party crasher. I believe the crane fly was munching on his breakfast of raw mosquito. He seemed utterly unconcerned with me. I thought it looked like he was surfing on a see of green. Well, sort of . All comments welcome. >=))>

Excellent capture, Bill. The crane fly itself is beautifully rendered, especially the wing structure, but I also like the beautiful frame filling green calla leaves. They provide a nice background and contrast to the CF, and really make the CF stand out. The larger view is striking in vividness and clarity.

Excellent detail in the cranefly but it's the really sweet lines of the calla leaves that grab my attention. Very, very nice

Well, this is something new, a photo of a crane fly that actually looks pretty! (For some odd reason I never thought of them as good-looking ctitters. Now that I think of it, that may be because as a child, my friends and I thought they were giant mosquitoes that would drain our blood if they caught us  ) The background of course, is the key to the beauty of the image, but the crane fly actually looks pretty good here, too, even though I always get the impression that they look really clumsy when they land on plants. Excellent detail, especially for an insect that has legs that are so hard to keep inside the frame.

Nice capture of this critter, Bill. The beautiful green leaves he is sitting on how him off nicely. Nice comp also; he really fills out the frame with those long legs! Good details on the bug.
