This Great Blue Heron was hunting in a beautiful setting on Grand Cayman Island.

To me, the reflections and patterns in the bg are as interesting as the bird in this shot.

All comments most welcome.

EOS 7D,, 400 mm f/5.6, ISO 400, 1/640s, f/10, -2/3 EV, 13.2 MP (73% of full frame), NR, exposure adjustment, sharpening.

Nice to know what you had in mind. I felt the same way about the sunflowers I posted and it's hard to climb into another person's mind. Steve, the detail on your bird is great and without the reflections in the water and the background vegetation, this image would not be the same. I like the light and the color tonality.

PS glad you posted a larger image too.

I really like how all the elements work together in this picture. I live along a creek and we often have great blue herons hanging out there so I have a special connection and interest in them. You have captured very well their standard hunting pose and I especially like how he is reflected clearly in the water. I agree the bg is also very interesting. It shows so well their natural habitat but without being a distraction from the heron. Wonderful detail on the heron and nice lighting. Great shot, Steve!

It a neat image and the background of reflections adds a lot. I'm especially attract to how the reflected light from the water creates some mottling in the heron's neck that mimics the distortions of the reflection.

Your background is nice, but I like your foreground too! I also like the way the heron is lit by reflected light. This looks rather painterly. Excellent.
