Wheels of Fire

No, not the Cream album. This image was made about ten years ago in the old Sacramento Shops, of the Southern Pacific Railroad. I had a unique opportunity to roam around both huge historic buildings before they were 'cleaned up' and turned into the Rail Park they are now, when all the old equipment was laying around as it was 40 years ago. Wonderful natural light coming through the dirty windows made for fabulous conditions. I wish I were a better photographer back then, and with the gear I have now. I was alone to wander for about 4 hours, and spent some time with these wheels. I am still happy with my results.

The design of your composition is superb, with the strong diagonals. That light works perfectly, modeling these wheels like sculpture and even bringing out the textures in the metal, even the dust. Love the warm tone. An exquisite image in my opinion.

This is really well done, Jeffrey. What a great opportunity to wander through the old buildings and a fine result.

Great perspective and nice color. If you stare at this for minute, the wheels look like they are rolling toward the vanishing point.

Well done!
