Jupiter and Venus share the crescent moon's spotlight just past sunset at Great Falls, MD.

A spot in Great Falls that I have been exploring lately. Completely clear skies today and tonight allowed me the opportunity to capture this amazing triage. I have a few more from tonight I can share given your comments :)

thanks for any thoughts!

Cool collection of objects in the sky. I like the gradient leading up to them. However there seems to be some nasty posterization going on, especially in the larger version.

Navin,
I saw that last night and knew someone would post a great shot of it.
Very nice treatment...
I like it a lot.

Great shot Navin. Wonderful range of shades within the limited color palette. Nice composition with the huge rock in seeming contrast to the much more delicate nature of the celestial objects. Indeed, I would like to see more from your shoots of this subject.

Cool shot. Too bad there wasn't a reflection of moon and stars on the water. :toast:

thank you for your comments so far :)

peter/gary, i hope this will satisfy you both. the trio was too high in the sky to compose a reflection shot with the colors of dusk. i had to wait until it got a little lower in the sky. a different mood, im curious for which you prefer.

this second shot is 2 images stacked for focus at f/5.6, ISO 800

Funny how a few little spots add so much! A very soothing image to view.

Both work well and are beautiful images. I agree the first needs more work to remove the posterization in the sky.

Nice shot, I had been watching these objects and how they were aligned in the sky the last few nights but didn't get an image. Glad you did! Oh, and I prefer the first version.

Fine capture of the near alignment with a lovely glow on the horizon. I see you've found my favorite area on the MD side of the falls. The colors in the sky make the original post my preference. I agree about the height in the sky being a challenge.

This is really nice, Navin. The moon and planets somehow add to to peacefulness that pervades this scene.

thanks everyone... i'll try working with the posterization to see what i can rectify.

yes, mark, this is definitely a cool part of the md side of the park. i hiked about 4 miles up and down the river but came back here for the shot. :toast:
