WC 522 - Wind

I have posted other images from this blizzard from last February. Those focused on the snow and the trees, but this one features the grasses being blown by the howling winds. 7D, ISO 100, f/11, 1/125, 165mm, minimal crop. C&C always welcome and appreciated.

To tie this in with last weeks challenge, I shot mostly from my car during this blizzard. Otherwise, I kept my back to the wind as best as I could, and limited my time out in the snow.

Rob, the opposing bends between the grasses and trees adds a nice dynamic to the weather. The muted colors of the grasses are nice, too. Neat photo and good to the eye.

Wow! I love the subtlety of this shot. The contrast is superb and the textures are just gorgeous. I love the horizontal precipitation - and the grasses that are echoing that horizontal motion. The dark trees in the background are a bit distracting to me - but they make the blowing snow stand out against their dark tones. It works! Nice shot!

Rob; I can almost feel that cold wind with the blowing snow in this shot! Unfortunately (or fortunately depending on your point of view) we have had so very little snow in our area this winter; I miss a good snowstorm once in a while! In the larger version one can really get a sense of the strength of the wind with the horizontally blowing snow and the blowing grasses. I also like how your shot gives a sense of the limited vision in this kind of storm.

I'm amazed that the grasses are sharp with that so much motion in the snow. This is an excellent depiction of blizzard conditions. The larger version really shows off the grass well.

Thanks everybody for commenting. Carolyn, we have had a very mild winter here. I don't mind the nice temps, but we really need the moisture. Rain, preferably, but at this point any form except ice would be nice welcome. Mark, I must have caught the grasses in between gusts, though gust is a relative in that storm as the wind didn't hardly do anything but blow hard :).

The snow moving between the grass and the trees is a wonderful effect. I also take special pleasure in high key images when I find them. Good job.

I love the subtle tones and the effect of the blowing snow. It makes for a very attractive image. The most amazing thing about it though is the fact that not a single blade of grass or branch of the trees is blurred at the relatively low shutter speed of 1/125 yet the snow is extremely streaked. It must have been a very strong and extremely steady wind!
