And Without Sauce

Went to Bolsa Chica Ecological Reserve for the first time this year. It was slow so I stayed on the bridge and practiced exposures on a Bufflehead and this male Scaup. Even in early light these guys are tough. I came close when this Scaup brought up a clam from a dive and I captured it swallowing the whole thing; quite interesting.

I tried (for the first time) to selectively lighten the dark areas and darken the whites in LR3. I am not to sure about the results. Sizing and sharpening in CS5

I like it, but maybe you could you add a little to the right?. That looks like a cookie in his mouth.

Good shot. Are you sure it's not a bagel?

That's gonna hurt tomorrow.... Pretty cool photo, Harry. Hard to imagine swallowing a clam. :toast:

Fairly good detail on the larger image and interesting seeing the clam. I have tired the same practice on Northern Shoveler's but this is a difficult shot to pull off in any kind of bright light. I will try and wait for an overcast day or more clouds if I want to do the Shoveler challenge.

Great behavior you captured nicely here Skip, I think you did a good job with your exposure adjustments. :toast:
