Crying Cormorant

Sony a700, 70-400 G series f3.5 zoom, tripod and ball head. Shooting this cormorant I noticed the mono fishing line stuck to his right wing and to the limb. He/she was crying for help and tried time and time again to fly off. I called animal control and they came out and rescued the happy creature from its trap.

So glad they were able to help the cormorant, it's really too bad people couldn't be a little more responsible with their lines.

Mono line is a terrible problem both in and on the water. Our family does an annual fall cleanup of the waterways and shorelines around us each fall after the rush of people have migrated south, and we pick up startling quantities of the stuff. Too bad the cormorant is backlit and concealing the mono on the wing, but that on the branch is supplemented by the backlighting, so it's a tossup.

You can view the mono hanging down from the wing by looking between the legs and below the part of the limb he/she is perched. I wondered how long the fellow was stuck there. God's creatures are amazing. :wavey:

I am so glad the poor thing got rescued! You pulled off the backlighting well, still preserving details in the dark! Nice composition & great story!
