Taken with Canon 20D, using 100-400 IS lens. Backyard setup of dead tree branch placed in ground in range of the birdfeeder.

Beautiful detail, colors, light. Did you also have to use a blind, or were you able to get this close without one (sitting and waiting)? I ask because the detail is so good it doesn't look like a large crop.

Hi Barbara. There was no crop, in fact I was a little too close for the lens. Simple set up. A six foot branch from a fallen tree placed in a large planter and placed about 4 feet from picture window. Beyond that another 4 feet and a little to the left is a bird feeder and beyond that a row of evergreen trees. Have camera ready, shoot through glass with nice clean background of grass or row of evergreens depending on angle. Once in awhile a bird takes advantage of the perch and if I'm lucky doesn't see me in the window.

Very nice picture of a Cardinal. Love the pose, exposure and details. The BG and composition are beautiful with the green area at the LR balancing the branch at the LL.
