Another Snowy

I went back to Ocean Shores last Sunday under promise of a sunny day. Unfortunately the clouds moved in shortly after sun-up, but there was some beautiful light for awhile. I liked the expanse of beach grasses and driftwood in this image and decided not to crop too much-wish I'd framed it better to start with. I also wish the light or head had been just a bit different to light the eye, but I still like the feel of the image.

1D4, 500mm ISL + 1.4TC, Black Widow on Gitzo legs, f8, 1/1000, iso 800, Av mode with -1/3 compensation. Normal processing ins CS5 and cropped to 64% of the original size.

Your comments and criticisms are always welcome.

Thanks for looking,

hey Dennis--good to see you. I like the feel of this too, especially the great light on the grasses. I also like the comp and overall setting. Although I agree with you that just a bit more light on the face would really take this to the next level, in the larger version the eye shows well and the owl has a rather interesting facial expression as it gives you that sidelong look so I like it very well as is too.

I like the lines here, Dennis. The canvas is almost separated into regions. NIce lonely looking owl too.

I like the overall scene here, Dennis. Makes me want to go back for another trip. I notice the your weather people up there are a lot like ours here in San Diego. "Sunshine" in Washington isn't really sunshine, and I suspect what we call rain down here wouldn't impress you much. :toast:

Oh, what gorgeous light, lines, colors here, and what a gorgeous setting. I like the distant gaze of the owl.

Dennis, I like the framing here with the big, sunlit log in the FG. Beautiful light. Love the way the BG is separated from the FG with the Owl well placed. Very nicely done.

Certainly a different take on the snowy. The lighting, setting and the owl looking away give this a pensive mood, nicely done Dennis :toast:

Wonderful soft light to this that really sets the tone. I do not know if you could of made your way over for more of a front view but I like the overall composition with the grasses blowing in the background and there is just enough light on the owl. I would love to see one of these, way to go.
