This is one of my many antique roses. I loved how the pollen was dusted onto the petals... I did not crop into the white of the flower, because the darkness seemed to frame it to my liking.

The pollen is very interesting, but I also find the petals really well presentedVery good shot.

Thanks to both of you. I have not re-touched this photo, except for brightening the center and pushing the black slider a little bit in LtRoom.. The edges of the petals have not been touched up at all. No smoothing, no "painting", no vignette. One of my best "Naked" shots w/ almost no PP.. l felt lucky to see this particular bloom with it's delicate, fresh petals , so, Voila! Here it is.

Lucy:
This is beautiful. The dark bg really frames the rose nicely and there is good details of the center. It is good as presented but if you are inclined to tweak, may be slight darkening of the leaves at 3-5 o'clock and cloning the dried leaf at 10 o'clock will make the image even stronger.

Beautiful find, Lucy, and well photographed. Nice lighting and comp. If you did want to do some more processing of this, a suggestion would be to darken all the background except the flower (of course!) and the 2 leaves in the bottom right. I think that would also make a fantastic photo helping to showcase this beauty. However, this is also wonderful as is!

Thanks Gary and Carolyn. I will see what this looks like both ways...darkening one version and going to a black bg in another.

Hi again, I darkened the bg, although not to black and used Gary's suggestions. I like this version better than all black, because I think it adds more interest having a little color in the bg. Although, I may use all black to put in a collection of black bg flowers. Thanks so much for your help. Hope this looks good to you, too.

Truly beautiful, Lucy ! The whites are just gorgeous, and the yellow of the pollen, with its splashes across the inner petals, is delightful.

Thank you so much, Lorna. I have been working on getting better shots..since I got an SLR to replace my Canon PowerShot. Now, I can actually shoot what I see, like in the "good ole days" shooting film SLRs..
