Rhinoceros

An wonderful rhino sighting recently. Two adults grazing didn't take much notice of our vehicle and slowly started approaching. It was a wonderful opportuntiy to experiment with various compositions - I always find framing an animal at extreme close quarters is quite tricky and the results don't alway do your subject justice, but here I was pleased with this image. Your thoughts and opinions always appreciated...

This really works for me James .... i'm a big fan of out of the box compositions. Nice DOF and great conversion.

IMHO this is a very powerful image. I generally do not care much for B&W converts, but this works well. The focus on the eye draws the viewer into this image. Thanks for sharing.

I like the choice of Black and White, emphasizing lines of texture and lighting angle. More dof would have been nice, but even stopped way down you would not have been able to get everything, I suspect.

Nicely visualized ! I bet it is not easy to execute such a fine image in the close presence of something that big and powerful

Like the up & personal feel James, but wonder if this image was inspired by Wim van den Heever?

The image won BBC HC award in the Veolia awards last year that we attended.

Thank you everyone for your comments and thoughts... Yes Stephen I have seen Wim's rhino image, which is awesome, so perhaps these are things which inspire our own compositions

James I totally agree, and being inspired by people around us can only ensure we can build on what we learn.

All the best.
