Bald Eagle

Birds in flight are one of my biggest challenges, photographically. So having eagles feeding on carrion nearby is providing some great practice time as they fly in and out of the area.
The background is sage brush and our sparse Northern Utah snowpack.

Canon 50D, EF400mm f/2.8L II USM +1.4x, ISO 100, 1/1000 @ f5.6

Thanks for looking.
Neil

The eagle is well exposed, with controlled whites and darks, and good detail in both. The wing positions (flat and almost edge on) could be better. The background is well blurred, but I could wish for more definition of it in other than the written explanation. As a background it seems blotchy. I wonder if a different ISO, say 400, would have allowed for enough smaller an opening to have given some definition to the landscape? Although it may just be it is what it is, Good catch in less than desirable circumstances!

Nice sharpness on the most important parts of the eagle and I really like the intensity of expression. I'm fine with the background and the bird is well placed against the snow (instead of the darker sage) in order to stand out well.

I like power portrayed in this image. He/she looks intent on something. Background does not bother me at all. Nicely done.

Very, very sharp on the head, and the bird really stands out well.

Very good details, like the POV and the intent look on the eagles face..
BG works well too, the bird stands out nicely :wavey:

Love the intense look on the eagle Neil. The BG works well for me. The bird looks sharp enough. I do wish for a bit more wing deflection either up or down from flat, but that is a minor issue for me.
