I found this seaweed skeleton on my last venture to Ocean Point, Boothbay, Maine in autumn a few weeks before Halloween. I think it makes a great abstract. I like the textures and graphics here. Let me know what ya all think.

Canon 5DM2
Canon EF 100 f/2.8L Macro
ISO100 1/6sec f/25
Hoya Polarizer

Thanks for having a look and hope it doesn't scare ya all away.

I can't quite get into this one Eva. The texture is neat, but the big black holes keep losing me. I do like the play of light across it too.

Hi David - The black holes are part of the decaying seaweed. There is no texture to pull out of them since it is simply a hole in the fabric of the seaweed. I spent a hour or two photographing this small piece of seaweed (maybe 6 inches across). Sick I know...... I just liked the graphic qualities it offered me. Photography for me is just getting absorbed in the scene. Maybe the black holes just sucked me in!

Aha! the fabric of my soul--black holes and all. Beautiful abstract with great texture and wonderful lighting. I think the holes work well as negative space and give balance to the image overall. A fine little beach ghost, IMO.

This is kinda neat. I can understand your fascination with it. It may be that the blackness of the holes detracts from the pattern of the rest of it for some people. Those holes really, really show up. I like the pattern, it's mesmerizing. What happens if the holes color is lightened to a dark gray? Just a question, I still like the patterns.

Seaweed skeleton? Never heard of that - you must have a different species of seaweed than we do her on the coast gulf. very neat shot though, reminds me of a snakeskin. Interesting patterns.

I am liking the patterns and textures. I find the black holes to be part of the patterns, so they do not bother me at all. Nice abstract.

Jason it is! And besides a mask, this also looks like a fish net to me. I guess I'll have to move this to M&N....
Certainly quite natural and fascinating Eva. Nature is always amazing. No suggestions or nits. Like Harley, the black holes are just part of the whole scene and patterns.

Seaweed was definitely the base layer in this. You can clearly see the amber parts and I did pick it up after photographing it. Whether this is the seaweed itself or something that grew on it, I am unsure but seaweed is the base..... The patterns were very intriguing. I should have taken it home and had it analyzed in the lab where I work. I think it is some sort of calcium backbone in the seaweed. That is my chemist's opinion......

Eva, This is very cool looking. I would not have known what it was either. Great textures and patterns in this. It does keep me looking at it! I like the black holes. :toast:
