Teasing myself

Sorry for not being so active lately. My company for the last 33 years have gone into bankrupcy (Saab)and it has been a hectic January to sort everything out. This picture is from September 2011 but I will return upp to Dovre NP in early March looking for some winter pictures of those beautiful animals. Have hired a guide who knows where they are and on skies we will go as close as we dare. Hopefully it will be an enjoyable trip with the memory card full of Ovibos in their right element. Ice cold, windy and lots of snow.

D300s and 70-200 with TC20EII at 370mm. f/5,6 and 1/80s

Sorry about Saab. I'm hoping to squeeze a few more miles out of my 9-5 and am not really sure what I'll do now to replace it. :frown:

I like this image though. It's quite dark but the light fur on the animals I think sets them off just enough from the background. I also like the subtle layers and angles here. Neat. :toast:

Awesome looking creatures in a nice setting. I like the way the two are bunched up while looking at you. Its hard to judge sharpness/shadow detail at this size, but i favour a slight opening of the shadows on the faces. Hope you have a great time around them in march !

Hi Christer,

I like the dark tones and colour palette here. I also quite like the placement of the subjects and how it helps contribute to the feeling of expansiveness conveyed by this shot. The strong contrast on the musk-ox, especially in the facial region, works well for me and this is a case where I don't think I would want to see shadows opened up. The more I look at this shot the more I like it (and the more I wish there was a larger version to view :frown: - at this size too much detail is lost to fully appreciate the image).

Cheers...and thanks for posting this excellent shot...

I like this image of muskox in their environment. I would like to see it just a bit brighter(maybe my old eyes), at least so a brighter version could be compared. Also, have you thought about a crop to horizontal? I scrolled it up and like it without the hill in the BG. Do like the light on the muskox. Thanks for sharing.

I really like this for the dramatic lighting on the two subjects.

Cool light and habitat. Remember you can also find these Pleistocene survivors in western and northern Alaska.

Congrats on the WP!

I wish I could see the animals' faces a little better. But what really makes this photo so good is the pair of them perfectly posed and camouflaged in their own environment. They symbolize for me perseverance beyond endurance.

Best of luck and photo ops on your March adventure. Sounds fabulous!

Congrats on the Pick!
